This season we were lucky to hire 20 enthusiastic individuals for our Watercraft Inspection Program. All of our stewards are either currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from an environmentally based major. This means our stewards are entering the season with a wealth of background knowledge and plenty of well-placed passion for our waters. Most of our stewards are students at the University of Buffalo, SUNY Buffalo State, Canisius College or SUNY Fredonia with a few coming to us from Cornell University, SUNY Oneonta and SUNY ESF. Our stewards are mostly from western New York, but some are transplants from Syracuse, Pennsylvania and Long Island. Regardless, all are excited to work with western New Yorkers to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species.

All of the stewards are looking to begin their careers in the environmental field and gain valuable experience with invasive species and public interactions. If you see any of our stewards at launches this summer, be sure to greet them with a smile and ask them what you can do to protect our waters; they will be more than happy to answer.

*There may be other invasive species present at these launches, beyond what is listed above. We are currently working to map and confirm new reports.
