WNY PRISM is currently hiring for our 2022 Crew positions! We are now accepting applications for three full-time Invasive Species Management Assistants, one full-time Education and Outreach Assistant, one full time Survey Technician, and one part-time GIS Technician.

The WNY PRISM Invasive Species Management Assistants (ISMA) will work closely with the WNY PRISM Terrestrial Program Manager, Field Operations Manager and partners to implement invasive species prevention, early detection, management, and habitat restoration projects within the 8-county WNY PRISM region. The selected candidates will conduct invasive species surveys and assessments, assist with priority invasive species removal and restoration projects, provide project reports and may assist with outreach events such as tabling at farmers’ markets or assisting with remote events or webinars. Invasive species removal efforts will include use of both manual and chemical (herbicide) methods. This is primarily a field position and the selected candidates can expect to spend the majority of their time working outdoors in remote locations and will experience inclement weather conditions.

Education and Outreach Assistant provides outreach at Orleans County Fair.

The WNY PRISM Education and Outreach Assistant will work closely with WNY PRISM staff and partners to implement and expand our education and outreach programs and will report directly to the WNY PRISM Education and Outreach Program Manager. Education efforts are essential to the success of the partnership and are integrated into nearly all aspects of WNY PRISM’s work. The selected candidate will help maintain the WNY PRISM Listserv and social media accounts, prepare e-newsletters, develop invasive species educational materials, organize and lead virtual education events, maintain detailed records, and communicate with partners. In addition, the Education and Outreach Assistant will assist with invasive species management activities such as invasive species monitoring, surveys, removal and habitat restoration projects, as needed.

The expected timeframe for the ISMA and Education and Outreach Assistant positions is May 2, 2022 – September 30, 2022.

The WNY PRISM Survey Technician will work closely with the WNY PRISM Terrestrial Program Manager, Field Operations Manager and partners to implement invasive species early detection and rapid response efforts within the 8-county WNY PRISM region. The selected candidate will conduct early detection invasive species surveys and assessments, implement invasive species removal projects, work alongside volunteers during invasive species removal workdays, and assist with outreach events such as tabling at farmers’ markets or assisting with remote events or webinars. The Survey Technician will work independently using established survey protocols to describe populations of early detection invasive species, implement manual removal methods on site and coordinate survey and removal permissions with partners. This is primarily a field position and the selected candidate can expect to spend the majority of their time working outdoors, often independently and in remote locations, and will experience inclement weather conditions. The Survey Technician will use tablets and GPS units to keep accurate, detailed, neat and complete field notes, and review data in the office using ArcGIS and iMapInvasives.

The expected timeframe for the Survey Technician position is June 1, 2022 – September 30, 2022.

The WNY PRISM GIS Technician will work closely with the WNY PRISM Terrestrial Program Manager to manage field data collected within the 8-county WNY PRISM region and create relevant project maps for partners and grant reporting. The GIS Technician will review previous habitat suitability models and use the same process to create relevant habitat suitability models for early detection or approaching region invasive species using ArcGIS software and MaxEnt. The GIS Technician will review ArcGIS data collected throughout the season and create shapefiles, use a WNY PRISM template to create project maps and convert survey files from a GPS unit to a usable GIS shapefile. The individual will keep a detailed log of the tasks used to complete this process and produce a final summary of their work. Additionally, the GIS technician may assist with manual removal of invasive species and participate in invasive species education and outreach programs.

The GIS Technician is a part-time, temporary position. The position start date is June 6, 2022 and hours must be completed by September 30, 2022.
