SUMMARY:UB Seminar: The NYS Hemlock Initiative and Classical Biological Control of the Invasive Hemlock Woolly Adelgid
DESCRIPTION:The University at Buffalo’s (UB) Department of Environment and Sustainability will host a seminar by Dr. Mark Whitmore\, leader of the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Biocontrol Research Lab at Cornell University. \nHemlocks are incredibly important to our ecosystems here in New York State. These trees are a slow growing\, but imperative species in our climax forests. Between providing a dense canopy cover that keeps our waters cool and cleaner\, to providing valuable habitats for myriad species\, these trees are crucial to our habitats. Mark and his team are dedicated to conserving this vital species. Please join on Friday\, December 9 at 6:00 pm in Cooke Hall 127 on UB’s North Campus for a seminar talk delving deep into this important species and the biocontrols being developed in the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Biocontrol Research Lab. \nThe seminar is open to the public and will be broadcast live and interactively on Zoom for those who are unable to attend in-person. For more information\, please go here.
