SUMMARY:From research to integration: Biological control of introduced Phragmites in Ontario\, Canada
DESCRIPTION:Biological control releases of the stem-boring moths Archanara neurica and Lenisa geminipuncta offer a promising new tool in the toolbox for integrated weed management of introduced Phragmites. Since the first releases in Ontario in 2019\, we have developed core operational protocols to rear\, release\, and monitor the agents and have released approximately 30\,000 insects across 50 sites. This presentation will provide an overview of (a) the initial years of the biological control program; (b) promising initial monitoring evidence of agent populations beginning to establish and having localized impacts on introduced Phragmites; and (c) ongoing efforts to scale up and integrate biological control with conventional management across the province. \nLearn more and register here.

SUMMARY:Invasive Species in the Landscape: From Backyards to Ecosystems
DESCRIPTION:Join Andrea Locke\, WNY PRISM Coordinator\, to discuss the landscape impacts of invasive species and how managing invasive species at home can improve both your yard and the surrounding environment. Invasive species pose a significant threat to our environment\, economy\, and human health\, but there are things each of us can do to help address these issues\, starting in our own backyards. We’ll learn about some of the invasive species impacting our region\, why they pose such a threat\, how best to manage them\, and other steps you can take to improve the ecological function of your backyard. \nLearn more and register at https://www.buffalogardens.com/events/invasive-species-in-the-landscape/.
