Join WNY PRISM for our Spring Partner Meeting, being held on Thursday, April 21 from 1:00 – 3:30 pm. The meeting will be held at the Buffalo State Alumni and Visitor Center with a remote attendance option via Zoom.

As part of the program we will hear from guest speakers on ecosystem-based restoration, swallow-wort biocontrol, and improved Phragmites management, as well as updates from WNY PRISM and partners. We encourage partners to bring information and outreach materials they would like to share.

Guest Speaker: Shannon Dougherty and Ryan Elliott, NYS DEC, will provide an overview of NY’s Great Lakes Action Agenda, supporting partnerships and projects, and how ecosystem-based management (EBM) has been applied to address complex environmental challenges, with a focus on the new ecosystem-based Integrated Watershed Action Plan that is being developed for the Cattaraugus Creek watershed.

Guest SpeakerDr. Dylan Parry, SUNY ESF, will provide an update on the New York State releases of the biological control agent Hypena opulenta in 2020 and 2021 and highlight some of the successes as well as challenges with establishing this species as part of this ongoing project.

Guest Speaker: Samantha Tank, Great Lakes Commission will discuss some of the lessons learned from facilitating an adaptive management program and how the Phragmites Adaptive Management Framework (PAMF) has improved – and will continue to improve – our understanding of Phragmites management. PAMF is a collective learning program that utilizes adaptive management to reduce uncertainty in the management of non-native Phragmites australis throughout the Great Lakes basin.
