Monitoring and Managing Ash Workshop

June 30 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Monitoring and Managing Ash (MaMA) special workshop for western New York will be hosted by NYS Parks at Evangola State Park, Tuesday, June 30, 9:00 AM -12:00 PM (rain date July 1).

The workshop will begin in the “Banquet Hall” for an overview presentation followed by a roundtable discussion about how to best work together to enable timely detection of lingering (EAB-resistant) ash and collection of material from them for breeding. After this, participants will visit ash stands in the park for hands-on experience in collecting data for the Monitoring and Managing Ash Rapid Ash Mortality Assessment (MaMA RAMA) project and the MaMA Lingering Ash Search project – both are essential for detecting and documenting lingering ash.

Through this collaboration, participants will be enabling lingering ash detection across WNY. Lingering ash typically have only partial resistance (hence the need for selective breeding), so even they often succumb eventually to EAB – thus, we need to detect these trees before it gets too late.

Space for this workshop is limited, so please make sure to register soon. If you have any questions, please email them to outreach@MonitoringAsh.org and for more information on MaMA, visit www.MonitoringAsh.org.
