Native Alternatives to Invasive Ornamentals

Many of our invasive species first arrived as ornamental landscaping plants. Unfortunately, these plants escaped from our gardens and spread across the landscape causing significant harm to natural areas and native plant communities. Land managers are working hard to remove invasive species from the landscape, but they need your help.

Know before you grow! Rather than adding species to your gardens that are known to be invasive, plant native or non-invasive plants. Many of our native plants are just as beautiful (if not more beautiful) than invasive ornamentals, and once established require far less input because they are adapted to our unique climate and soils.
