The eastern hemlock is a foundation species in our forests, but it’s threatened by the invasive hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA), a tiny insect with a big impact. Early detection is a great way to help slow the spread of HWA and you can help.

Become an HWA Hunter with WNY PRISM!

Join our HWA Hunters Training to learn how to identify, survey for and report HWA, and adopt a location to survey this winter. No experience needed!

Then our HWA Stand Assessment Training is for you! In this hands-on training you’ll learn how to assess the health of hemlock stands, document the extent of HWA populations, and provide critical data that guides future management and biocontrol efforts. Adopt a location to survey this winter and help make a difference!

Prior HWA survey experience is required.
