Join WNY PRISM for two free workshops on invasive species Best Management Practices and management planning. Terrestrial Program Manager, Brittany Hernon, and Aquatic Program Manager, Nicole Smeenk, will give presentations and field demonstrations. Pesticide recertification credits are available for those seeking them.

 

Terrestrial Workshop – FULL

The Terrestrial Workshop is full, however you may still register to be placed on the waitlist – if space opens up, those waitlisted will be contacted in order of when they registered. 

The Terrestrial Invasive Species Management Workshop includes a classroom presentation on Best Management Practices for invasive trees, shrubs, Phragmites and knotweed. PRISM staff will discuss specific treatment techniques including cut stump, basal bark treatment, foliar treatment, stem injection and clip and drip, and will demonstrate equipment used for each technique in the field. The objective of this workshop is to provide specific information to professionals, community scientists and the public so they can effectively treat invasive species on their properties.

Field Demonstration will include review of treatment methods including cut stump, basal bark and foliar (trees and shrubs), clip and drip (Phragmites), and stem injection (knotweed).

This workshop will offer two credits in the following categories:
Category 2: Forest Pest Control
Category 3A: Ornamentals, Shade Trees and Turf

 

 

Aquatic Workshop

The Aquatic Invasive Species Management Workshop will describe aquatic invasive species management planning for ponds and riparian areas. The classroom portion will discuss identification and treatment of common aquatic invasive species. The objective of this workshop is to provide specific information to professionals, community scientists and the public so they can effectively treat invasive species on their properties. During the field exercise, participants will practice creating an invasive species management plan for the pond on site.

This workshop will offer 1.75 DEC pesticide recertification credits in the category of 5A: Aquatic Vegetation.

To receive credits, you must register at least 24 hours before the workshop, show up early to sign in, bring your photo ID and applicators license, and attend the entire workshop.
