WNY PRISM is currently hiring for our 2023 Crew positions! We are now accepting applications for three full-time Invasive Species Management Assistants, one full-time Education and Outreach Assistant, and two full-time Survey Technicians.

The WNY PRISM Invasive Species Management Assistants (ISMA) will work closely with the WNY PRISM Field Operations Manager, Terrestrial Program Manager and partners to implement invasive species prevention, early detection, management, and habitat restoration projects within the 8-county WNY PRISM region. The selected candidates will conduct invasive species surveys and assessments, assist with priority invasive species removal and restoration projects, provide project reports and may assist with outreach events such as tabling at farmers’ markets or assisting with remote events or webinars. Invasive species removal efforts will include use of both manual and chemical (herbicide) methods. This is primarily a field position and the selected candidates can expect to spend the majority of their time working outdoors in remote locations and will experience inclement weather conditions.

Education and Outreach Assistant provides outreach at Orleans County Fair.

The WNY PRISM Education and Outreach Assistant will work closely with WNY PRISM staff and partners to implement and expand our education, outreach and community science programs, and will report directly to the WNY PRISM Community Science and Engagement Program Manager. Education efforts are essential to the success of the partnership and are integrated into nearly all aspects of WNY PRISM’s work. The selected candidate will help maintain the WNY PRISM social media accounts and Listserv, update and develop invasive species educational materials, prepare e-newsletters, organize and lead education events, maintain detailed records, and communicate with partners. In addition, the Education and Outreach Assistant will assist with invasive species management activities such as invasive species surveys, removal and habitat restoration projects, as needed.

The WNY PRISM Survey Technicians will work closely with the WNY PRISM Terrestrial Program Manager, Field Operations Manager and partners to implement invasive species early detection and rapid response efforts within the 8-county WNY PRISM region. The selected candidate will conduct early detection invasive species surveys and assessments, implement invasive species removal projects, work alongside volunteers during invasive species removal workdays, and assist with outreach events such as tabling at farmers’ markets or assisting with remote events or webinars. The Survey Technician will work independently using established survey protocols to describe populations of early detection species and coordinate survey and removal permissions with partners. They will also work in a team setting to implement chemical and manual removal methods. This is primarily a field position and the selected candidate can expect to spend the majority of their time working outdoors, often independently and in remote locations, and will experience inclement weather conditions. The Survey Technician will use tablets and GPS units to keep accurate, detailed, neat and complete field notes, and review data in the office using ArcGIS and iMapInvasives.

The expected timeframe for all of these positions is May 8, 2023 – September 22, 2023.
